We are the bus that remembers!
Birthed in Lagos and raised by the internet, Black Molue is a multidisciplinary
design studio rooted in nostalgia, satire and afro-futurism. Through founder
and Creative Director, Temitope Efuwape’s interest in design, art, and
popular culture, we reinterpret the visual archive of the motherland into
high-quality, conversation-starting streetwear, wall art, collectibles,
and curated experiences. At its core, Black Molue is about people; culture
- past and present, and the attitudes that endure. Each piece we create
reimagines our shared experiences through eclectic designs, meticulous
craftsmanship, and a commitment to detail that reframes the familiar. Our
work thrives in the in-between, where parody meets critique, chaos is shaped
by craft, and a Lagos conductor and Japanese design theorist share the
same seat.
The name says the rest.
The name isn’t for aesthetics; Black Molue is a system of transport. Not
physical, but cultural. The original molue carried half the city at once,
serving up a vibrant concoction of stories, ideas, ambition, styles, humour
and everything in between within its metal shell. We’ve taken that same
logic and translated it for design. The studio functions like a moving
vessel; ideas get on, cultures converge, memory dialogues with imagination
and everything travels somewhere new.
Black Molue is an ongoing translation of who we were, how we came to be,
and what comes next.
